51����

This past Saturday, members of the Class of 2027 gathered with the Class of 2030 to welcome the new freshmen to 51����, California.

The first of three welcome dances, the night’s theme was based on the 1985 classic film Back to the Future. The seniors did an excellent job decking out St. Gladys Patio with oceanic decorations, a nod to the “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance at the end of the film.

The night began with entertainment in St. Cecelia’s Auditorium: a short film written and directed by Liam McDaniel (’27), starring many of his fellow students. The entertainment followed student Aidan Cooper (’27) as he traveled back in time in an attempt to influence the founders of TAC to include in the College’s founding document permission for students to wear socks and sandals to class. Of course, his antics did not go as planned, and the entertainment ended with much laughter and the familiar warning that time travel is not the best way to solve a problem.

The dancing followed quickly thereafter, and the freshmen got to know the seniors as music blared from the loudspeakers. Many students chose to dress up in ’80s-themed attire, complete with poofy hair, denim-on-denim, and oversized jewelry. The food included delicious pinwheel sandwiches, cherry cupcakes, and an abundance of potato chips.

The night was a big success, and the dance floor was never empty of seniors and freshmen waltzing and swing-dancing their hearts out. 

“The seniors are very welcoming!” Mariane Esser (’30) shared. “This is a great experience of TAC culture.”
