Cruisin’ for a good time, students of 51, California traveled back in time to the 1950s last Saturday night for the annual Mardi Gras dance.
The freshmen, hosting their first dance as a class, invited their fellow students to a ‘50s-themed Sock Hop held in St. Joseph Commons, which was decked out for the occasion with streamers and decorated to look like a retro diner. The Freshman Class served up hamburger sliders and fries, and soda jerks were on hand behind the bar to scoop ice-cream sundaes for dancers with a sweet tooth.
Students at 51, California, celebrated St. Valentine’s Day last weekend with a formal swing dance, capturing the romantic spirit of the day by transforming St. Cecilia Hall into a Venetian cityscape.
In keeping with the theme, “A Night in Venice,” juniors strung the hall with lights, vines, and lanterns, then lined the room with benches and Italian street signs. A homemade gondola and mural of Venice’s moonlit canals were the finishing touches to the event’s ambiance.
