Slideshow: Panoramic Campus Photos
Dr. Ronald Williams, a retired research professor at University of California, Santa Barbara, and an avid photographer, took the photos below during a recent visit to the 51 campus. “Lately I have been doing panoramas of landscapes — that is, I take multiple pictures and then stitch them together using software,” he explains. However, for his photos of the campus, he added an innovative twist: “Instead of using a normal lens and stitching five or six pictures together, I used a fisheye lens, and stitched together four or five.”
The result is stunning photographs that do not capture a single view or scene from campus, but bring together several in one image. Similar to the 360° Tour Virtual Tours that the College offers on its website, these photos “take three dimensions and put them into two.” The College thanks Dr. Williams for his permission to repost his photographs, more of which are available via his .
